A client came to us with a tough question: “Can you build an interactive, circular calendar in Power BI using only built-in visuals?” They needed a detailed, one-year view of their team’s overlapping tasks and efforts—a feature they had found in an expensive third-party software. However, the client didn’t want to lock into an ongoing subscription, or request another platform licence from IT, especially when all their data was already stored in Power BI.
We saw this as the perfect opportunity to maximise the flexibility and power of Power BI. Instead of relying on custom software or external platforms, we crafted a custom DISC planner entirely within Power BI using standard visuals. The result? A solution that provided the same detailed view of overlapping efforts over an entire year, all without the recurring costs associated with subscription-based platforms.
The Outcome: A Powerful Tool with Zero Additional Subscription Costs
Our DISC planner allowed the client to seamlessly track and manage team tasks, offering a comprehensive, 12-month view of workloads. And because we built it exclusively with Power BI’s native features, the client didn’t need to pay for any custom visuals or additional licenses—just their existing Power BI setup.
This project not only delivered a smart, cost-effective solution but also reinforced the power of using the tools you already have. The client now has a fully interactive planner that meets their needs without any additional fees, giving them the flexibility to visualise and manage their team’s efforts across the year.
